2XKO Patch 7.2 ‘Feast On’ Drops July 9 — Here’s What We Know

Something new is cooking in the Rift, and Riot is calling it Feast On. Patch 7.2 lands July 9th UTC, and the dev team already dropped two preview episodes to get the community salivating before the full notes go live.

Two Courses Deep, Full Menu Still To Come

Riot has been teasing 7.2 through a two-part Patch Preview series hosted by David. Episode 1 dropped June 24th with a broad overview of “the feast menu” heading into July, and Episode 2 followed on July 3rd with a second helping of details. Full patch notes historically land alongside the update itself, so expect the real breakdown, character-by-character numbers, hitbox tweaks, and bug fixes, to hit 2xko.riotgames.com right around July 9th.

That two-episode rollout is new territory for 2XKO. Past patches got a single notes drop on release day; teasing it out over two videos suggests Riot thinks 7.2 has enough going on to build hype in stages, which is usually a sign of more than a routine numbers pass. It also gives the community a full week to speculate before anything is confirmed, which is exactly the kind of slow-burn hype cycle bigger fighting games like Street Fighter and Tekken have used for years, and 2XKO leaning into it is a good sign for how seriously Riot is treating patch marketing this season.

Riot’s Balance Philosophy: “If Something Is Ass, Just Change It”

If you’re wondering how aggressive 7.2 might get, Riot already laid out its philosophy in blunt terms. In their Live Balance Philosophy post, the team summed up their approach as: “if something is ass, just change it.” They’ve also committed to a rough five-week patch cadence, but they’re not chasing change for change’s sake, they know retraining muscle memory every patch is frustrating, and they’d rather let a strategy cook from “broken tier to B-” as players adapt than nerf it out of existence in week one.

That philosophy matters for 7.2 specifically. If a character has felt miserable to play or fight since the last pass, this is exactly the kind of patch where Riot said they’d step in.

The Roster’s Never Been Fuller

7.2 also lands in a different world than the last few patches. Season 1’s roster officially wrapped at Evo 2026 when Riot confirmed Lux and Samira as the final additions, with Lux’s full trailer coming this fall and Samira trailing behind in winter. With no new fighter shipping alongside Feast On, all the balance attention this patch can go toward the characters players are already grinding in ranked and in The Climb, instead of being split with onboarding a fresh face.

That’s a meaningful shift. Every patch since Season 1 launched has had to juggle balance work alongside a new character reveal, a new mode, or both. Feast On is the first real chance Riot has had to just tune the roster that’s already live, which is usually when the sharpest, most surgical changes come out, since the team isn’t splitting resources onboarding something new.

What To Watch For On Patch Day

Expect three things when the full notes drop July 9th: standard tuning on whichever champions have been dominating post-Evo lobbies, quality-of-life fixes carried over from community bug reports, and possibly a Climb-specific adjustment since that mode is still fresh off its June 9th launch. None of that is confirmed yet, Riot hasn’t published specific numbers, so treat it as an informed guess rather than a leak.

Either way, five days out is exactly when FGC theorycrafting kicks into high gear. Get your predictions in before the patch drops and see who calls it.
