COMBO SYSTEM BASICS

OVERVIEW

2XKO is built so that anyone can do a real combo on day one. The system is designed around one simple, universal structure — you don’t need to memorize character-specific frame data to get started. Learn this single pattern and you can deal real damage with every character in the game.

TJ’s Tip

Everyone starts with the same easy bread-and-butter. The difference between a beginner and a pro isn’t a secret combo — it’s how consistently they land the basic one under pressure.

THE MAGIC STRING: L → M → H

Your three attack buttons — Light, Medium, and Heavy — chain into each other in that order. Press L, then M, then H, and they automatically link together into a short combo.

  • Light (L) — fast and easy to land; your combo starter.
  • Medium (M) — the bridge that keeps the string going.
  • Heavy (H) — the big finisher that launches or knocks the opponent away.

That L → M → H is the backbone of almost everything you’ll do. Get comfortable pressing those three in rhythm and you’re already comboing.

CANCEL INTO A SPECIAL (S1 / S2)

After your Heavy — or even straight off a Medium — you can cancel into a Special move: your S1 or S2. Every character has these, and they add serious damage or send the opponent flying for even more follow-up.

So the pattern grows naturally: L → M → H → S1 (or S2). Try both specials — each character’s S1 and S2 do different things, and picking the right ender is half the fun.

FINISH WITH A SUPER

Got meter built up? Cancel your Special into a Super for a flashy, high-damage finish. Now you’ve got the complete beginner bread-and-butter:

The Universal Combo

L → M → H → S1 (or S2) → Super — one string that works, looks awesome, and does real damage with any character in the roster.

DRILL YOUR BREAD-AND-BUTTER

Pick your main, head into Training Mode, and drill exactly that string: L, M, H, into a special, into a super. Run it until it’s automatic. This is your bread-and-butter — the combo your hands do without thinking when a real match gets stressful.

Two focused minutes a day is plenty. See the 5 Daily Drills guide for a full 10-minute routine.

LEVELING UP FROM HERE

Once the basic string is muscle memory, the depth opens up: routing off different starters, extending with tag and assist calls, carrying the opponent to the corner, and squeezing out extra damage with tighter timing.

But none of that is required to have fun and win matches. Master the simple string first, then add one new piece at a time. That’s how every strong player was built.
