OVERVIEW

Vi is a Brawler — a slow, heavy character who rewards patient, controlled aggression. She’s one of the most beginner-friendly characters in 2XKO, but her ceiling is sky high. Her Brawler mode, activated after building Electric Strike charges, is one of the most oppressive pressure tools in the game.

If you like characters who feel powerful when you land hits, control space with big normals, and have a clear “mode” you build toward, Vi is your character.

💡 Why Vi is great for beginners

Vi’s main BnB combos are short and forgiving. Her damage is high enough that even incomplete combos still win rounds. And her Brawler mode gives you a clear goal to play toward.

NEUTRAL GAME

Vi’s neutral revolves around controlling space with her long-reaching normals and fishing for a combo starter. Her main tools:

Standing Pokes

  • 5H (Standing Heavy) — Your longest normal. Use it at max range to catch people walking forward.
  • 5M (Standing Medium) — Fast, good for whiff punishing short-range pokes.
  • 2H (Crouching Heavy) — Sweep range. Great when someone is in your face and you want to knock them down.

Approach Options

Vi’s main approach tools are her dash (fast but committal), a jump-in with j.H, and her special command dash. The key is to never approach the same way twice in a row — Vi is slow enough that predictable approaches get stuffed easily.

“Walk back and let them come to you. Vi wins the war of attrition if you stay patient.” — TJPuma

BRAWLER MODE

Brawler Mode is Vi’s signature mechanic. After landing enough Electric Strikes (3 by default), Vi enters a powered state where her damage increases, her moves gain new properties, and the opponent has to deal with significantly scarier pressure.

  • Brawler mode is your win condition — play to build it, not just to land combos.
  • Once activated, use 214H (command grab special) as your main threat to force guesses.
  • Your opponent will respect Brawler mode and start blocking more — use that window to go for throws.

⚡ Building Electric Strikes Faster

Electric Strikes charge from specific normals. Use 5H and j.H to charge faster. You can also charge through your tag-in assist, so even when your partner is fighting, Vi is building meter in the background.

CORE COMBOS

Vi’s combos are intentionally simple at the BnB level. Start with these and only add complexity when these land 90%+ under pressure:

Anti-Air:2Hj.Mj.H214H
Tag-In:T hit5M5H214L

Anti-Air Routes

Vi’s anti-air is 2H. On hit, you can link into j.M for a full combo. Practice this connection specifically — it’s the difference between wasting your anti-air damage and turning it into a full kill round.

ADVANCED TECH

Once you’ve mastered the fundamentals, these techniques will separate you from the average Vi player:

  • Electric Cancel: During Brawler mode, you can cancel the recovery of certain normals by spending one Electric Charge. This makes your pressure nearly airtight.
  • Meaty setups: After knockdown, Vi has specific timing windows where her 5L hits as the opponent wakes up, giving you an automatic frame advantage.
  • Tag pressure: Vi’s best assist is one that covers her approach. Learn to call your assist right before throwing a 5H — it makes the hit almost guaranteed.

TEAM COMPOSITION

Vi works best as a lead character — she builds Brawler mode, opens the opponent up, then tags out to let her partner close. Best partners:

  • Jinx — Jinx’s traps and zoning complement Vi’s pressure perfectly. Jinx covers Vi’s approach with mines while Vi builds Brawler.
  • Braum — Braum’s shield gives Vi cover during approach and Braum’s assist is excellent for combo extensions.
  • Darius — Pure aggression. Both characters want to be up close, and their assists complement each other’s openers.
