OVERVIEW

“Who should I main?” is the most-asked question in every fighting game community — and the most personal. The right answer isn’t the strongest champion: it’s the one whose gameplan you enjoy executing 500 matches from now.

TJ’s Tip

Pick with your gut, verify with your hands. If a champion makes you want to play one more match, that’s your main — tier lists come second.

KNOW THE ARCHETYPES

Every 2XKO champion fits a fighting game archetype. Find the playstyle that sounds fun:

  • Brawlers (Vi, Darius): walk forward, hit hard, simple gameplans with high reward
  • Zoners (Jinx, Teemo, Caitlyn): control space with projectiles and traps, win without touching you
  • Grapplers (Blitzcrank, Illaoi, Thresh): scare opponents into mistakes with command grabs and setups
  • Assassins / Mix-up (Akali, Ekko, Ahri): fast, tricky, steal rounds off one opening
  • Fighters / All-rounders (Yasuo, Warwick): balanced toolkits that scale with your fundamentals
  • Supports / Tanks (Braum, Senna): make your partner better, control the pace

THREE QUESTIONS TO ASK

Answer these honestly and your shortlist builds itself:

  • Do you want to chase, or be chased? Aggressive = Brawler/Assassin. Patient = Zoner/Support.
  • Do you enjoy execution or decisions? Combo lovers want Yasuo/Akali; decision-makers want Blitz/Illaoi.
  • How do you feel about losing rounds you controlled? If it tilts you, avoid low-health assassins and pick sturdier champs.

BEST FIRST CHAMPIONS

If you genuinely can’t decide, these four have the friendliest learning curves while staying strong at every level:

  • Vi — honest buttons, clear gameplan, teaches fundamentals
  • Jinx — learn spacing and zoning with great damage
  • Blitzcrank — simple inputs, terrifying reward, teaches knockdown offense
  • Braum — forgiving defense while you learn to block

Cross-reference with the current tier list if ranked climbing matters to you — then commit for at least 100 matches.
