OVERVIEW
2XKO is Riot Games’ free-to-play 2v2 tag fighting game set in the League of Legends universe. You pick a duo of champions, a Fuse that defines how they work together, and fight with one champion on screen while the other assists.
If you’ve never touched a fighting game, this is genuinely one of the friendliest entry points the genre has ever had — and this guide gets you from zero to your first ranked match.
TJ’s Tip
Don’t try to learn everything before playing. Play first, lose a bit, then come back here — the concepts stick 10x faster once you’ve felt the problem they solve.
CONTROLS & BUTTONS
2XKO uses a simplified control scheme: Light, Medium, and Heavy attacks, two Special buttons (S1/S2), plus Tag. Specials use simple directional inputs — no complex motion inputs required.
- Light (L): fast, short range — your check button
- Medium (M): the workhorse — combos into everything
- Heavy (H): slow, big damage, launches for combos
- S1 / S2: your champion’s unique special moves
- Tag (T): calls your partner for an assist or swap
Enable Pulse Combos in character select if you want auto-combos while learning — zero shame, maximum learning speed.
THE DUO SYSTEM
You fight 2v2: one point champion on screen, one assist champion off screen. Pressing Tag calls your partner in for an assist attack, and holding it swaps them in as your new point character.
Managing two health bars and knowing when to swap is the heart of 2XKO — a hurt champion can recover gray health while resting off-point.
YOUR FIRST MATCHES
Here’s your complete starter checklist:
- Play the in-game tutorial once — it covers movement and tagging
- Pick ONE duo and stick with it for 20 matches minimum
- Learn to block before you learn to attack (hold back)
- Find one anti-air button and press it every time they jump
- Use casual matches until the buttons feel automatic, then enter ranked
The Golden Rule
Losing while learning one thing is progress. Winning while learning nothing is not.
WHERE TO GO NEXT
Once you’re comfortable moving and blocking: read How to Choose Your Champion, then How Do Fuses Work, then pick your main’s character guide from the Guides Hub. And if you want the fast track, book a coaching session — one hour saves you a hundred.
